“Twitter freaks me out. You have followers? It feels so obsessive and proprietary.” -Mos Def

Other than self-promotion, there are really only two reasons that I have and maintain a twitter account. The first one is Kanye West’s wealth of ridiculous sayings:

The second reason is the awesome joke accounts. Makes sense that people would realize you don’t need to be a celebrity to tweet weird stuff, and that you don’t need to do it under a real name.

One of my favorites is Stealth Mountain. This is a twitter user who finds people who have misspelled “peek” as “peak,” and corrects them.

Which I’m sure leads to a lot of this:

Another great one is Ya Boy Bill Nye, which is exactly as hilarious as it sounds:

There’s also simpler joke accounts that are really only good for a laugh or two, like Not A Cop

But mostly Twitter is a way for everyone to vomit their opinion without regard for others. As comedian Kumail Nanjiani put it, Twitter is “just one step above if I’d just gone to my balcony and shouted.” Tweets do, however, sometimes get read by actual people like when celebrities were shown some terrible tweets
If you’re not a celebrity guest starring on Jimmy Kimmel, you might take it personally. Or i guess, even if you are a celebrity who is on Jimmy Kimmel. So Tweet responsibly folks, and keep in mind that there’s a good chance that nothing anyone puts on the internet is worth reading.

  1. Eh. I don’t need Twitter (and would never get an account). I can vomit my opinion without regard for others on here all the time! I HAVE watched that video before…funny stuff!
